Looking Out for the Future

A couple of encouraging stories in recent times from SSMBF clubs are about the desire to get more children involved in our sport. In Stranraer, David Kelly has been doing some great things. Those of us who attended the Scottish Championship weekend in Dumfries last February will surely remember watching many of the juniors taking part in a junior event on the final day. Their enthusiasm, to say nothing of their skills, left those of us who watched feeling encouraged for the future of our sport. We hope to hear more from David Kelly in due course about how he went about it.

Recently the Kyleakin IBC has enjoyed having the children from their neighbouring primary school come over to play bowls (or something vaguely resembling bowls!) on Wednesday afternoons. It’s been very successful with the kids all enjoying themselves and hardly able to wait to come back again the following week. At least two of the youngsters are desperate to come along to the club now, along with their parents who see it as a great chance to get involved in something as a family. We do already see this happening in our sport of course, and it’s something we must all encourage.
